Meet the client: A software development company
Temy is a full-service software development and staff augmentation provider that helps businesses worldwide. The company is equipped to deliver projects of all kinds and complexities — whether it’s a shopping app, an AI-driven price prediction platform, or a smart home system.
Task and purpose: Why case studies were needed
Although Temy offers a wide range of solutions, many of its capabilities were not visible to potential clients. This created a risk: prospects might choose competitors simply because they didn’t realize Temy could cover all their needs.
To address this, the company decided to highlight completed projects through case studies on its website. One of the most important was the Veev Digital Home project — a sophisticated cloud-based IoT smart home system embedded directly into houses during construction.
Challenges in writing the smart home case study
When we provide case study writing services, clients usually share as many details as they can — project background, challenges, goals, and results. We then expand that input through research and interviews.
For this IoT case study, however, the client only had a broad idea of what the case study should achieve.
Several other challenges added complexity to the project:
- The project began several years earlier, and some team members were no longer at Temy.
- The system had evolved significantly as Veev’s requirements changed.
- Smart home technology and the Internet of Things are complex subjects that require careful explanation.
- The text needed to highlight Temy’s technical expertise while also showing business value for non-technical audiences.
Given these factors, we decided that a single text wouldn’t be enough. Instead, we developed a series of interconnected case studies: one that introduced the entire project and four shorter ones dedicated to specific device groups such as lighting, climate control, and humidity control.
Our process: From research to design
To meet the client’s needs and minimize rework, we divided the project into a series of small, repeatable steps that could be applied to each case study in the series. This approach ensured consistency while leaving space for deeper research and refinement at every stage.
Interviews with subject matter experts (SMEs)
Interviews were the foundation of our work. After an introductory e-meeting, where we learned about the Veev project at a high level, we conducted two in-depth calls with a software engineer and a QA expert who had been part of the development team.
The first interview focused on the bigger picture: how the system worked as a whole, its main functionality modules, and how users interacted with it. We also explored the technical side—how different components connected, how they exchanged data with the cloud, and why specific technologies had been chosen.
The second interview narrowed the scope to individual functionality modules of Veev Digital Home, exploring how they operated and how they were developed. Together, these conversations gave us the technical depth and context needed to build an accurate, engaging narrative.
Additional research on smart home technology and IoT
Even with strong input from the interviews, we needed further research to fully connect the dots. We explored the technologies behind Veev Digital Home, comparing them with alternatives to better explain the reasoning behind each choice.
This effort helped us ensure accuracy and avoid gaps that could undermine the client’s credibility. It also allowed us to highlight Temy’s engineering expertise and demonstrate the business value of the project to non-technical readers.
Client feedback and alignment
Each draft was shared with the client’s team for review. Their feedback focused on structure, logic, and technical detail, which we incorporated to make sure the final texts were both precise and aligned with their vision. Only after all edits were accepted did we move on to the next stage.
Native English editing for case studies
High-quality content is our trademark, and native English editing is an essential part of that process. Each of the five case studies was carefully polished to ensure clarity, readability, and a natural flow. This final step made the texts publication-ready and suitable for both technical and business audiences.
Design recommendations for complex IoT content
Because Veev Digital Home had such a complex structure, we wanted to help the client explain it without overwhelming readers. Alongside the texts, we provided the design team with recommendations for visuals that would show how different components fit together. These visuals reinforced the content, making the story of the project more accessible and engaging.
Results: A five-part smart home case study series
After two months of close collaboration with Temy, we successfully created a series of five case studies. Together, these five texts form a complete narrative that covers the system as a whole as well as its individual components.
- The Veev Series: How Temy Became Part of the Smart Home Revolution — the main case study introducing the full IoT system.
- Veev’s Advanced Lighting Control: Uniting Diverse Lighting Fixtures into One Cohesive System — showing how diverse lighting fixtures were unified into one system.
- Veev’s Climate Control: Coordinated Work on Both Sides of the Atlantic — explaining how distributed teams coordinated development across continents.
- Veev’s Humidity Control: An Easy Solution with Tricky Implementation — covering the challenges and solutions in regulating indoor humidity.
- Veev’s Doorlock/ Doorbell/ Shades Control: Transforming the Veev Digital Home into a Welcoming Fortress — presenting the smart security and access features.
These texts are more than just project documentation. They position the client as a key player in the smart home space, highlight technical and QA expertise, and serve as a foundation for new business opportunities.
